Our volunteers have weekends free, and we encourage you to travel and discover all that Peru has to offer! Below are some of the most common destinations volunteers travel to on their weekends off or after the program. NB: Weekend travel is optional and not included in the cost of the program.
Chiclayo, 3 hours north of Trujillo
Check out the Royal Tombs of Sipán, the richest tomb ever discovered in the Americas. Then, take your time to relax in La Ciudad de la Amistad and enjoy Chiclayo’s beautiful beaches.

Pacasmayo, 1hr 45min north of Trujillo
Enjoy a day trip to Pacasmayo to get out of the city, surf world-class waves, eat fresh seafood and ceviche, check out the local dancing scene and relax.

Huaraz, 6 hours SE of Trujillo
Trekkers come from all over the world to Peruvian Andes at their finest in the Cordillera Blanca outside of Huaraz. Guided climbs, treks, guided bike tours, ruins of Chavín de Huantar and Yungay, a city buried by an avalanche.

Cajamarca, 7 hours NE of Trujillo
Explore the historical and breathtaking Cajamarca, where the Inca offered the Spanish a room filled with gold. It is a charming Andean city, but don’t miss the beautiful rock formations at Cumbe Mayo and natural hot springs where the Inca Atahualpa once bathed at Baños del Inca.

Máncora, 9 hours north of Trujillo
Enjoy a trip to Máncora to take in the sun and surf. Enjoy warm weather year-round and learn to kite-surf or surf!

Chachapoyas, 14 hours east of Trujillo
Visit the third tallest waterfall in the world, pre-incan ruins of one the strongest and most mysterious cultures in Peru and enjoy both the Andes and the Rainforest in this wonderful quaint town.

Cusco & Machu Picchu, 45 minutes from Lima by plane (24 hours by bus)
You’ve heard it already, but you can’t miss the picturesque Cusco, the ancient capital of the Incan Empire, and Machu Picchu, recently named one of the 7 Wonders of the World.
Amazon Rainforest (Iquitos, Puerto Maldonado), Fly from Lima or Cusco
If you have extra time to travel, you can’t miss the Amazon! Consider visiting Puerto Maldonado (45 minute flight from Cusco) or Iquitos (1.5 hour flight from Lima) for some breathtaking views of the jungle and its wildlife.
